I Want My Money Back. Now
4 August 2022What a horrendous thought to believe – it’s you!
4 August 2022??’? ??? ??? ????? ???. ???? ? ??????.
When one of the smartest people on the planet – Bernardo Kastrup – and an ex-England rugby star agree that your life isn’t about you, it’s got to be worth a listen.
Kastrup traces the self-improvement movement back to Nietzsche’s (pictured) concept of the ‘Übermensch’ and, in so doing, dismantles the belief systems that have spawned a whole industry.
The idea that you have a moral obligation to pursue happiness, and that you can achieve that goal through constant self-improvement, persists because it’s profitable rather than truthful.
In my experience, it causes more misery rather than less, because it increases focus on the concept ‘me’ and what’s wrong with me. This perspective will keep you busy forever and make you a lot less interesting.
A concept that increases unhappiness cannot also resolve unhappiness.
Believing that by suffering, we will be rewarded with happiness, is as old as humanity itself and is installed to control, not to liberate.
You don’t have to look too far to see that is nonsense. Fairness does not exist in this world as we see it. Nothing is fair. People are born with innate advantages, and they die with them, too. Maybe it exists in another realm.
Whoops. I digress. Have a listen to the podcast and enjoy it.
