Are Your Feelings Lying to You?
4 August 2022[vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”What’s the Difference Between Fear and Anxiety?” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]This is a good question, and distinguishing between the two is very useful if we want to address them effectively.
What’s good about fear?
Perfect when facing a threat to life and limb, to you and your loved ones. You’ll become strong as an ox, able to scream like a hyena, or roar like a lion, and you’ll have the focus of a world-class snooker player.
So we don’t need to do anything about that at all. Our miraculous bodies are doing a fine job.
However, being so miraculous – and therefore complicated -, minds often produce this response where it’s not necessary. When this happens, the fear response is dysfunctional.
This happens because of various ‘stucknesses’ as we call them in Rapid Resolution Therapy (RRT). These include:[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion][vc_tta_section title=”Mind reads similar as same” tab_id=”1660047296177-cdb14b9f-3cb6″][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Mind is reading a past event as if it is still happening” tab_id=”1660047354680-167ae955-227d”][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Mind doesn’t distinguish between real and imagined.” tab_id=”1660047296177-131358df-3aac”][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_accordion][vc_column_text]* Here, ‘mind’ refers to your perceiving body as well as mental processing.
What’s good about anxiety?
Absolutely nothing. Its only benefit is that being free of it feels as good as drinking a jug of iced water at the end of a trek through the desert. If you hadn’t experienced the thirst, you wouldn’t get the pleasure.
